✨ wine.spec_sheet

The Scharzhofberg vineyard is one of the world's most revered white wine terroirs, situated on a steep, south-facing slope of weathered grey Devonian slate in the Saar valley, a cool-climate tributary of the Mosel. Owned in part by the legendary Egon Müller estate since 1797—following the secularization of church lands formerly held by the Benedictine Abbey of St. Paul in Trier—this vineyard yields Riesling of unparalleled tension and longevity. The Scharzhofberger Spätlese is crafted from 100% Riesling grapes, often partially affected by noble rot, and fermented in traditional old oak Fuder casks. This wine is celebrated for its breathtaking balance of natural residual sweetness, electric acidity, and profound slate-driven minerality, representing the pinnacle of traditional German winemaking.

🍾 wine.about_producer

Established in 1797 when the Müller family acquired the historic estate, Weingut Egon Müller-Scharzhof is located in Wiltingen within the Saar sub-region of the Mosel, Germany. Today, the estate is meticulously managed by Egon Müller IV, who continues a multi-generational legacy of producing some of the world's most coveted and long-lived white wines. The winery is legendary for its peerless Rieslings sourced from the steep, slate-rich slopes of the iconic Scharzhofberg vineyard, as well as the Wiltinger Braune Kupp site under the Le Gallais label. Emphasizing traditional, low-intervention cellar practices and old, ungrafted vines, Egon Müller crafts exceptionally precise, mineral-driven, and exquisitely balanced Rieslings ranging from crisp QbA to legendary, auction-grade Auslese and Trockenbeerenauslese expressions.
