✨ wine.spec_sheet

The Wiltinger Braune Kupp Riesling Spätlese is a masterclass in Saar terroir, produced by the legendary estate of Egon Müller. While the Müller family is synonymous with the iconic Scharzhofberg, they have also managed the historic Le Gallais estate since 1954, which holds the prized parcels of the steep, south-facing Wiltinger Braune Kupp vineyard. Unlike the grey slate of Scharzhofberg, Braune Kupp is characterized by iron-rich red and brown clay-slate soils, yielding a Riesling of exceptional warmth, structure, and spicy minerality. Crafted using traditional, minimalist cellar techniques—including fermentation in old oak fuders—this Spätlese beautifully balances vibrant, electric acidity with delicate natural sweetness, offering notes of stone fruit, white flowers, and a distinct smoky minerality that has captivated collectors for generations.

🍾 wine.about_producer

Established in 1797 when the Müller family acquired the historic estate, Weingut Egon Müller-Scharzhof is located in Wiltingen within the Saar sub-region of the Mosel, Germany. Today, the estate is meticulously managed by Egon Müller IV, who continues a multi-generational legacy of producing some of the world's most coveted and long-lived white wines. The winery is legendary for its peerless Rieslings sourced from the steep, slate-rich slopes of the iconic Scharzhofberg vineyard, as well as the Wiltinger Braune Kupp site under the Le Gallais label. Emphasizing traditional, low-intervention cellar practices and old, ungrafted vines, Egon Müller crafts exceptionally precise, mineral-driven, and exquisitely balanced Rieslings ranging from crisp QbA to legendary, auction-grade Auslese and Trockenbeerenauslese expressions.
