Emiliana's Vigno Carignan is a tribute to the rescue of Chile's historic old-vine heritage. The Vigno (Vignadores de Carignan) movement was born in the Maule Valley to protect and celebrate dry-farmed, head-trained Carignan vines that are at least 30 years old. Originally introduced to Chile after the devastating 1939 Chillán earthquake to add color and acidity to local blends, these resilient vines were long forgotten. Today, Emiliana sources fruit from these deep-rooted, dry-farmed vineyards in the coastal range of the valley. Crafted using organic and biodynamic principles, the wine showcases the wild, untamed character of the grape, offering intense notes of sour cherry, wild berries, and earthy undertones, balanced by vibrant natural acidity and rustic, structured tannins.
🍾 About the Producer
Founded in 1986 by the Guilisasti family, Emiliana has grown to become the world's leading producer of organic and biodynamic wines. In the late 1990s, visionary director Rafael Guilisasti partnered with renowned consulting winemaker Álvaro Espinoza to pioneer ecological viticulture across Chile's most prestigious wine regions, including the Casablanca, Maipo, Colchagua, and Cachapoal Valleys. Guided by Demeter-certified biodynamic farming principles, Emiliana eliminates synthetic inputs in favor of natural preparations and native biodiversity to authentically reflect terroir. The estate is widely celebrated for its flagship biodynamic red blends, notably Coyam and Gê, as well as expressive single-vineyard expressions of Carmenère, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah.
