Hailing from the Max vineyards in the heart of the Aconcagua Valley, Errazuriz Single Vineyard Carmenere is a tribute to Chile's signature grape. Once thought to be extinct in its native Bordeaux after the phylloxera plague, Carmenere was famously rediscovered in Chile in 1994, where it had been mistaken for Merlot for decades. Errazuriz crafts this wine from select parcels where colluvial soils and the valley's unique microclimate—characterized by warm, sunny days tempered by cooling evening breezes from the Pacific Ocean and the Andes—allow the late-ripening Carmenere to achieve optimal phenolic ripeness. The wine is typically aged in French oak barrels for approximately 12 months, resulting in a refined expression that balances rich black fruit, roasted red pepper, and sweet spice notes with elegant, polished tannins.
