Hailing from a historic parcel in Paraje Altamira within the Uco Valley, Zuccardi's Finca Canal Uco is a profound testament to the region's extreme high-altitude terroir. The vineyard, planted in 2007, takes its name from the historic irrigation canal that borders the property, a vital lifeline that has nourished the valley for generations. Unlike the nearby Piedra Infinita vineyard which is dominated by shallow, extremely stony soils, Canal Uco features slightly deeper soils with a higher concentration of clay and silt over a bed of calcium carbonate-coated alluvial stones. This unique geological profile imparts a distinctive character to the wine, yielding a Malbec of remarkable structure, intense dark fruit, and velvety, fine-grained tannins. Sebastián Zuccardi vinifies this single-vineyard masterpiece using concrete vessels and native yeasts, followed by aging in unlined concrete and large oak foudres, ensuring that the pure, mineral-driven voice of the Altamira soil remains entirely unmasked.
