The story of Fontanafredda is deeply intertwined with Italian royalty, founded in 1858 by Vittorio Emanuele II, the first King of united Italy, as a private estate for his beloved mistress, Rosa Vercellana. Nestled in the rolling hills of the Langhe region in Piedmont, this historic estate crafts a classic expression of Nebbiolo. Sourced from estate-associated vineyards, this wine showcases the grape's signature translucent ruby hue, high acidity, and structured tannins. Unlike its more formidable sibling Barolo, Fontanafredda's Nebbiolo is crafted for earlier accessibility. It undergoes fermentation in stainless steel followed by a brief period of aging in neutral oak casks, allowing the bright red cherry, wild strawberry, and delicate violet aromas to shine alongside a rustic, earthy undertone that speaks directly to its Piedmontese terroir.
🍾 Om vinhuset / producenten
Fontanafredda blev grundlagt i 1858 af det forenede Italiens første konge, Vittorio Emanuele II, som en ejendom til hans elskerinde Rosa Vercellana. Under parrets søn, grev Emanuele Alberto di Mirafiore, udviklede vinhuset sig til en af de helt centrale grundpiller i piemontesisk vinavl. Den historiske ejendom råder over 120 hektar økologisk certificerede vinmarker med centrum i Serralunga d'Alba – et terroir præget af kompakt helvetisk kalkmergel og højtbeliggende syd- og sydvestvendte skråninger i 200 til 400 meters højde. Da Oscar Farinetti og Luca Baffigo overtog ejendommen i 2008, indledte de en vinøs renæssance, som kulminerede i fuld økologisk certificering fra og med 2018-årgangen. I de historiske kældre fra det 19. århundrede forenes teknisk præcision med klassisk piemontesisk tilbageholdenhed. Vinifikationen bygger på lange macerationer, gæring på rustfrit stål til de aromatiske hvidvine samt modning på neutrale fade af slavonsk eg til de ædle rødvine. Husets mest ikoniske aftapninger tæller enkeltmarks-Baroloen Vigna La Rosa, Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d'Alba, Roero Arneis Pradalupo samt de banebrydende mousserende Alta Langa Metodo Classico-vine.
