Ried Harzenleiten is a prized terraced vineyard in the Wachau, situated on steep slopes where the soils are dominated by weathered paragneiss and thin layers of loess. The name Harzenleiten historically refers to the resinous pine trees that once covered these rugged slopes before they were painstakingly terraced for vines. F.X. Pichler's expression of Riesling from this site is a masterclass in tension and mineral purity. Benefiting from the dramatic diurnal temperature shifts caused by cool breezes descending from the Waldviertel forest meeting the warm Pannonian air currents, the grapes develop intense aromatic complexity while retaining a vibrant, electric acidity. Meticulously hand-harvested and vinified with minimal intervention, this wine showcases the classic Pichler signature of crystalline structure, stone fruit depth, and a persistent, salty mineral finish.
