F.X. Pichler's Riesling Smaragd bottlings represent the absolute pinnacle of dry Austrian white wine, characterized by monumental power, laser-like acidity, and intense mineral precision. While the Kirchweg vineyard in Loiben is historically celebrated for the estate's monumental Grüner Veltliner due to its deep, gravelly riverbed soils, any Riesling styled under the Smaragd designation from the warm, sun-drenched terraces of Loiben benefits from the unique microclimate of the Danube basin. The Smaragd classification—the highest tier in the Vinea Wachau noble association—requires a minimum natural alcohol level of 12.5% and represents fully ripe, late-harvested grapes. Pichler's Rieslings are fermented in stainless steel and aged in large, neutral Austrian oak casks to preserve the pristine purity of the fruit, yielding wines of extraordinary structural tension, stone fruit complexity, and a profound, smoky minerality derived from the region's primary rock soils.

Weingut F.X. Pichler blev grundlagt i 1898 i landsbyen Oberloiben i Østrigs prestigefyldte Wachau-region og regnes i dag på verdensplan for et absolut referencepunkt for hvidvine i verdensklasse. Vingården blev ført til international berømmelse af Franz Xaver (F.X.) Pichler og drives i dag af Lucas Pichler ud fra en kompromisløs filosofi, der sætter fokus på terroir-præcision, minimal intervention i kælderen og det rene udtryk fra de ældgamle terrasser af urgrund.
