The Loibenberg is one of the Wachau's most historic and imposing vineyards, a massive south-facing terraced amphitheater that has been cultivated since at least the 11th century when Bavarian monasteries recognized its viticultural supremacy. Towering above the Danube, its steep stone terraces are composed of weathered Gföhl gneiss covered by loess, which acts as a giant solar heat bank during the day. F.X. Pichler harnesses this unique microclimate to craft a Riesling of monumental proportions. The wine is celebrated for its tension between opulent, exotic stone fruit flavors and a fierce, smoky minerality, shaped by the dramatic diurnal temperature shifts between hot days and cool night winds blowing down from the Waldviertel forest.
