The Ried Loibenberg is one of the most imposing and historic grand cru vineyards in the Wachau, rising majestically above the Danube River. Documented as far back as the 14th century when Bavarian monasteries held parcels here, this massive, south-facing amphitheater of stone terraces basks in intense sunlight, tempered by cool Alpine breezes. F.X. Pichler’s Riesling from this legendary site captures the dramatic interplay of the warm Pannonian climate and the cool nights. Grown on complex soils of weathered primary rock (gneiss) and loess, the grapes are meticulously hand-harvested and fermented in large, neutral Austrian oak casks. The resulting wine is a masterclass in tension, balancing opulent exotic fruit with a piercing, saline minerality and structural power that has made the estate legendary.
