Ried Steinertal is one of the most distinctive vineyards in the Wachau, situated in a narrow, amphitheater-like valley at the easternmost edge of the region. Here, the vines are exposed to a dramatic climatic tug-of-war: warm Pannonian air currents meet cold, nocturnal winds channeling down from the northern Waldviertel forest. This unique microclimate, combined with steep terraces of highly weathered Gföhl gneiss and minimal topsoil, forces the Riesling vines to struggle, resulting in berries of extraordinary concentration. F.X. Pichler masterfully captures this terroir, utilizing traditional large oak casks to craft a dry Riesling defined by its crystalline structure, electric acidity, and intense, smoky minerality. It is a wine that beautifully illustrates the tension between power and elegance, a hallmark of the estate's artisanal heritage.

Established in 1898 in the village of Oberloiben within Austria's prestigious Wachau region, the F.X. Pichler estate is globally revered as a pinnacle of dry white wine production. Currently managed by Lucas Pichler, the winery crafts world-class Grüner Veltliner and Riesling from legendary, steep stone-terraced vineyards such as Kellerberg, Loibenberg, and Steinertal. The family's production philosophy focuses on meticulous hand-harvesting and precise cellar work, utilizing large, traditional oak casks to preserve the intense minerality and structural purity of their terroir. F.X. Pichler is celebrated for iconic, powerful expressions like the 'M' Grüner Veltliner and the monumental 'Unendlich' Riesling, which epitomize the depth and longevity of Wachau's finest wines.
