✨ Technical Specifications
The 'Wachstum Bodenstein' vineyard is a legendary high-altitude site in the Wachau, perched up to 460 meters above sea level on steep, terraced slopes above Unterloiben. Planted in 1990 by Franz Pichler, this vineyard was a visionary project designed to explore the limits of cool-climate viticulture and biodiversity in the region. The soils here are dominated by weathered primary rock (Gneiss), which forces the Grüner Veltliner vines to dig deep for nutrients. The resulting wine is a masterclass in tension and precision, showcasing a vibrant mineral core, exotic fruit aromas, and a structural elegance that sets it apart from lower-lying sites. Fermented and aged in large, neutral Austrian oak casks, it beautifully marries power with high-toned alpine freshness.
🍾 About the Producer
Founded in 1898 in the village of Oberloiben in Austria's prestigious Wachau region, Weingut F.X. Pichler is globally celebrated as a benchmark producer of world-class white wines. Elevated to international renown by Franz Xaver (F.X.) Pichler and guided today by Lucas Pichler, the estate adheres to a meticulous viticultural philosophy centered on terroir precision, minimal cellar intervention, and the expression of ancient, primary rock terraces. Sourced from legendary steep vineyard sites such as Kellerberg, Loibenberg, and Steinertal, their dry white wines showcase extraordinary concentration, minerality, and tension. The winery is particularly famed for its powerful, age-worthy Grüner Veltliner and Riesling bottlings, highlighted by monumental flagship cuvées like 'Unendlich'.
