Casa Sala is the ultimate tribute to Freixenet's historical roots, crafted at the ancestral family estate in Sant Sadurní d'Anoia where the brand's story first began. This exceptional Gran Reserva Brut Nature is produced using traditional methods, including the gentle pressing of grapes in a historic, manual wooden Coquard press imported from Champagne in 1913. Sourced from old-vine Parellada and Xarel·lo plots in the high-altitude Mediona and Sant Sadurní areas, the wine undergoes an incredibly long aging process on its lees—often exceeding seven years—in the dark, cool depths of the family cellars. With no added dosage, it represents the purest expression of the Penedès terroir, characterized by intense autolytic notes of toasted brioche, dried fruits, and a profound mineral core, balanced by a remarkably creamy texture and vibrant acidity.

🍾 wine.about_producer

Established in 1914 following the marriage of Pedro Ferrer Bosch and Dolores Sala Vivé, Freixenet traces its winemaking roots back to the 1861 founding of Casa Sala in Sant Sadurní d'Anoia, Spain. Located in the heart of the Penedès region in Catalonia, the house pioneered the production of Spanish sparkling wine using the traditional method, utilizing classic indigenous grape varieties like Macabeo, Xarel·lo, and Parellada. Freixenet is globally renowned for its iconic expressions, most notably the black-bottled Cordon Negro launched in 1974, alongside the prestigious Casa Sala Gran Reserva and the elegant Elyssia range. Today, the winery remains a symbol of Catalan sparkling wine heritage, blending centuries-old craftsmanship with modern innovation to define the global standard for Cava.
