Crafted as a tribute to Dolores Sala Vivé, the co-founder of Freixenet and a pioneering figure in the Spanish sparkling wine revolution, Cuvée D.S. Gran Reserva is a vintage Cava produced only in exceptional years. This sophisticated sparkling white wine is made from the classic Catalan trio of Macabeo, Xarel·lo, and Parellada grown in the chalky-clay soils of the Penedès region. Utilizing the traditional method, it undergoes an extensive aging period on its lees for at least 36 to 48 months in the subterranean cellars of Sant Sadurní d'Anoia. This prolonged autolysis imparts a deep golden hue, fine persistent bubbles, and a complex aromatic profile of ripe stone fruits, toasted brioche, nuts, and subtle honeyed notes, while retaining a vibrant, crisp acidity that speaks to its Mediterranean heritage.

Freixenet trace its origins to 1914 in Sant Sadurní d'Anoia through the union of two established winegrowing dynasties—the Sala and Ferrer families—following roots traced back to Casa Sala in 1861. Anchored in the Penedès depression within Catalonia, the estate harnesses a Mediterranean microclimate marked by warm, sun-drenched days, cooling maritime sea breezes, and diverse alluvial, limestone, and clay soils. Freixenet built its reputation pioneering modern temperature-controlled stainless-steel fermentation and traditional method sparkling winemaking at scale, championing the classic Catalan triumvirate of Macabeo, Xarel·lo, and Parellada alongside select international cultivars.
