Born from a unique partnership established in 2012 between the Marchesi Frescobaldi family and the Italian penal authorities, Gorgona Bianco is crafted on the tiny, wind-swept island of Gorgona, the last active prison island in Europe. Here, inmates cultivate the vineyards under the guidance of Frescobaldi's master winemakers, gaining valuable agricultural skills for rehabilitation. The vineyard, a small amphitheater overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea, is planted with Vermentino and Ansonica. The vines thrive in iron-rich, sandy soils, constantly bathed by marine breezes and intense Mediterranean sun. This unique island terroir yields a white wine of extraordinary character, fermented and aged in stainless steel and partially in oak to preserve its vibrant acidity and complex aromatics of wild rosemary, broom flowers, and ripe stone fruits, underpinned by a distinct, saline minerality.
