Hailing from the historic Castello Nipozzano estate, which has been under the stewardship of the noble Frescobaldi family for centuries, Montesodi is a landmark of Tuscan viticulture. First crafted in 1974, it represents one of the earliest single-vineyard expressions of Sangiovese in the Chianti Rufina appellation. The vineyard's name, Montesodi, translates to 'stony mountain,' a direct nod to the rugged, schist-rich 'alberese' soils situated at 400 meters elevation. This high-altitude, rocky terroir forces the vines to dig deep, yielding a Sangiovese of remarkable concentration, vibrant acidity, and refined minerality. Traditionally aged in large Austrian and French oak casks, Montesodi showcases the austere elegance of Rufina, weaving a narrative of ancient Tuscan soils, aristocratic heritage, and a relentless pursuit of pure varietal expression.
