✨ Technical Specifications
Named in honor of the visionary president who guided G.H. Mumm for nearly half a century, Cuvée René Lalou represents the pinnacle of the house's winemaking. René Lalou was a legendary figure who rebuilt the house's vineyards after the devastation of the World Wars and established its reputation for uncompromising quality. First released with the 1966 vintage, this rare prestige cuvée is crafted from an exceptional, highly selective blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir sourced exclusively from historic Grand Cru parcels within the Côte des Blancs and the Montagne de Reims. These specific plots are chosen for their distinct chalky terroir. The wine undergoes extended aging on its lees in the deep chalk cellars of Reims, resulting in a Champagne of extraordinary complexity, structure, and refined autolytic character, balancing rich brioche notes with vibrant mineral tension.
🍾 About the Producer
Founded in 1827 in Reims by the Mumm brothers and their partners, Champagne G.H. Mumm is one of the most storied and prominent houses in the Champagne region of France. The house's legacy was cemented in 1876 when Georges Hermann Mumm introduced the iconic red silk ribbon across the bottle—inspired by the Grand Cordon of the Legion of Honour—crystallizing their enduring motto, 'Only the Best.' Anchored by extensive Grand Cru vineyard holdings, particularly in the Montagne de Reims, Mumm's winemaking philosophy highlights the structure, freshness, and power of Pinot Noir. The house is internationally celebrated for its vibrant flagship Cordon Rouge Brut, alongside sophisticated prestige bottlings such as Cuvée R. Lalou and the historic, mineral-rich Mumm de Cramant Blanc de Blancs.
