✨ wine.spec_sheet

Angelo Gaja's acquisition of the historic Gromis estate in Serralunga d'Alba in 1995 marked a significant chapter in the winery's legendary Piedmontese narrative. Named 'Dagromis' ('with the Gromis family') as a respectful nod to the vineyard's original owners, this Barolo DOCG is a masterful blend of 100% Nebbiolo sourced from prime sites in both Serralunga and La Morra. The combination of Serralunga's dense, iron-rich clay-limestone soils—which impart muscular structure, deep power, and intense tannins—with the softer, more aromatic marls of La Morra creates a beautifully balanced expression of the appellation. Following traditional fermentation, the wine is aged for twelve months in barriques followed by an additional twelve months in large oak casks, resulting in a classic Barolo that marries Gaja's signature precision with the wild, savory depth of the Langhe hills.

🍾 wine.about_producer

Founded in 1859 by Giovanni Gaja in the village of Barbaresco, Piedmont, Gaja is one of the world's most legendary wine estates, celebrated for revolutionizing Italian viticulture. Under the visionary leadership of Angelo Gaja, who joined the family business in 1961, the winery pioneered modern techniques in the Langhe, including green harvesting, temperature-controlled fermentations, and aging in French barriques. Gaja is globally renowned for its iconic single-vineyard Nebbiolo bottlings, such as Sor'i San Lorenzo, Costa Russi, and Sperss, alongside pioneering white wines like Gaia & Rey. The family has since expanded its uncompromising pursuit of quality to Tuscany, producing acclaimed Brunello di Montalcino at Pieve Santa Restituta and Bolgheri blends at Ca' Marcanda.
