Gaja's Grappa Rossj-Bass is a refined, aromatic Italian spirit distilled from the fresh pomace of Chardonnay grapes harvested for the estate's acclaimed Rossj-Bass white wine. Named in honor of Angelo Gaja's daughter, Rossana (nicknamed Rossj), and the lower-lying ('bass') vineyard parcels in Barbaresco and Serralunga, this grappa captures the elegant essence of Piedmontese distilling tradition. Rather than aging in oak, this grappa is typically kept in stainless steel to preserve the pure, vibrant characteristics of the Chardonnay grape. The distillation process uses temperature-controlled copper alembic stills under vacuum, ensuring the delicate floral notes, citrus hints, and soft herbaceous undertones of the grape skins are gently extracted and preserved.
