Sori San Lorenzo is one of the most legendary single-vineyard bottlings from the Langhe hills of Piedmont, first released by the visionary Angelo Gaja in 1967. The word 'Sori' translates in Piedmontese dialect to a south-facing hilltop where the snow melts first, indicating prime sun exposure, while 'San Lorenzo' refers to the patron saint of Alba's cathedral. Acquired by the Gaja family in 1964, this site is celebrated for producing the most powerful, structured, and muscular of Gaja's single-vineyard crus. Composed of 100% Nebbiolo grown in calcareous clay and limestone soils, the wine undergoes a meticulous aging process in both French barriques and traditional large oak casks. It is famous for its brooding complexity, showing deep notes of dark cherry, wild herbs, leather, and tar.

Founded in 1859 by Giovanni Gaja in the village of Barbaresco, Piedmont, Gaja is one of the world's most legendary wine estates, celebrated for revolutionizing Italian viticulture. Under the visionary leadership of Angelo Gaja, who joined the family business in 1961, the winery pioneered modern techniques in the Langhe, including green harvesting, temperature-controlled fermentations, and aging in French barriques. Gaja is globally renowned for its iconic single-vineyard Nebbiolo bottlings, such as Sor'i San Lorenzo, Costa Russi, and Sperss, alongside pioneering white wines like Gaia & Rey. The family has since expanded its uncompromising pursuit of quality to Tuscany, producing acclaimed Brunello di Montalcino at Pieve Santa Restituta and Bolgheri blends at Ca' Marcanda.
