Domaine de Javerniere is a jewel in the portfolio of Georges Duboeuf, the legendary 'King of Beaujolais' who championed the region's Crus on the world stage. This wine hails from the famed Javernières climat, nestled at the foot of the iconic Côte du Py hill within the Morgon appellation. Here, the Gamay grape thrives in a unique terroir of decomposed schist, iron oxides, and manganese, locally referred to as 'roche pourrie' or rotted rock. This iron-rich soil imparts a profound structure, deep color, and distinct mineral complexity to the wine. Crafted using traditional vinification methods, this Morgon beautifully balances vibrant, fleshy dark cherry aromas with a savory, earthy depth. Over time, it undergoes the classic transformation known locally as 'morgonner,' where the wine sheds its youthful exuberance and develops the silky, forest-floor complexity reminiscent of aged Pinot Noir from the Côte d'Or.
