Hailing from the Brouilly appellation of Beaujolais, Georges Duboeuf's 'Pisse Vieille' is a legendary single-vineyard Gamay steeped in local folklore. The vineyard's unusual name, which translates to 'piss, old woman', stems from a humorous 19th-century tale of a devout, hard-of-hearing local woman named Mariette. After her confession, she misunderstood the priest's absolution 'Allez, et ne péchez plus' (Go, and sin no more) as 'Allez, et ne pissez plus' (Go, and piss no more). She strictly obeyed until her worried husband consulted the priest, who frantically corrected her, crying: 'Pisse, vieille!' This terroir features pink granite soils that yield a classic, vibrant Brouilly. Vinified using traditional semi-carbonic maceration, this wine showcases bright red fruit aromas of cherry and raspberry, soft tannins, and a lively, approachable character that epitomizes the joyful spirit of Cru Beaujolais.

Established in 1964 by Georges Duboeuf—the visionary merchant famously dubbed the 'King of Beaujolais'—Les Vins Georges Duboeuf transformed the global reputation of Gamay. Headquartered in Romanèche-Thorins, the family négociant house collaborates with hundreds of winegrowers spanning southern Burgundy and Beaujolais. The portfolio captures the diverse terroirs across the ten regional Crus, where Gamay thrives on distinctive pink granite, manganese-rich schist, and decomposed clay slopes under a semi-continental climate with Mediterranean influences. Viticultural philosophy emphasizes sustainable management and lutte raisonnée across partner domains, alongside expanding certified organic initiatives. Utilizing traditional semi-carbonic and whole-cluster fermentations in temperature-controlled tanks, the vinification strategy preserves vivacious red fruit purity, florality, and supple tannin structure. Managed today by Franck Duboeuf and his son Adrien, the maison produces benchmark single-estate and cru bottlings, notably Château de Saint-Amour, Domaine du Moulin-à-Vent, Domaine de la Vigne Romaine, and the prestigious Fleurie cuvées.
