G rard Bertrand's 'An 1650' is a tribute to the rich viticultural history of the Roussillon, celebrating the historical legacy of the Maury terroir. This cuv e is typically crafted from a blend of Grenache, Carignan, and Syrah, grown on the dramatic black schist soils of the Agly Valley. These dark, heat-absorbing soils, combined with the intense Mediterranean sun and the drying Mistral and Tramontane winds, create an exceptional microclimate. The vines yield concentrated grapes that produce a deeply colored, robust red wine. Winemaking emphasizes preserving the intense dark fruit profiles and the distinctive smoky, mineral undertones characteristic of the schist terroir, resulting in a wine of remarkable depth, velvety tannins, and a wild garrigue finish.

Established in 1992 by former French international rugby player Gérard Bertrand following the legacy of his father Georges at Domaine de Villemajou, the estate has emerged as an undisputed pioneer of fine wine in the Languedoc. Headquartered at the coastal Château l'Hospitalet within the limestone massif of La Clape, Bertrand orchestrates over 900 hectares of vineyard land across premium terroirs spanning Corbières, Minervois-La-Livinière, Terrasses du Larzac, and Limoux.
