Gerard Bertrand's La Forge is a premier cuvée originating from the historic Château de Villemajou in the Corbières-Boutenac appellation of the Languedoc. This estate holds deep personal significance as the ancestral home where Gerard's father, Georges Bertrand, first championed the qualitative potential of the region. The wine's name, La Forge, pays homage to the old blacksmith's forge on the property, symbolizing the elemental fusion of earth, heat, and human craftsmanship. The blend is a masterful combination of ancient Carignan vines—some over a century old—and Syrah, grown on stony, clay-limestone soils baked by the Mediterranean sun. To tame the powerful character of the Carignan, carbonic maceration is employed, while the Syrah undergoes traditional fermentation, followed by extensive aging in French oak barrels. The result is a deeply concentrated, complex red that epitomizes the qualitative pinnacle of the Languedoc.
