Historically dismissed as a source of cheap, bulk wines, Guffens recognized that the steep, limestone-rich slopes ('roche' translating to rock) possessed a terroir that could rival the legendary hills of the Côte de Beaune. By employing extremely low yields, harvesting in multiple passes to ensure perfect maturity, and utilizing natural fermentations in oak barrels with extended lees contact, Guffens coaxes an astonishing level of concentration, dry extract, and electric acidity from these rocky soils. The resulting wines are legendary for defying regional hierarchies, offering a dramatic interplay of opulent, sun-drenched fruit and a deeply saline, mineral-driven core.

Domaine Guffens-Heynen blev grundlagt i 1979 af det belgiske ægtepar Jean-Marie Guffens og Lydie Heynen og har hjemme i den maleriske landsby Vergisson i Mâconnais i Bourgogne. Jean-Marie Guffens er bredt anerkendt som en revolutionerende visionær, der forvandlede det sydlige Bourgognes omdømme gennem et kompromisløst markarbejde, streng manuel selektering i flere omgange ('tries') under høsten og et præcist, minimalistisk arbejde i vinkælderen. Vingården er verdenskendt for at skabe ekstraordinært koncentrerede, mineralske og lagringsværdige hvide bourgogner fra ikoniske lieu-dits som En Chavigne og La Roche i Pouilly-Fuissé samt Mâcon-Pierreclos – vine, der jævnligt måler sig med de ypperste Grand Crus fra Côte de Beaune.
