✨ wine.spec_sheet

Hennessy Black represents a bold, contemporary departure from traditional Cognac conventions. Released in 2009, this vibrant expression was specifically crafted by Hennessy’s master blenders to bring a lighter, more mixable spirit to the modern palate. It is a carefully curated blend of approximately 35 to 45 different floral and elegant eaux-de-vie, distilled primarily from Ugni Blanc grapes grown in the chalky soils of the Cognac region. Unlike traditional expressions that spend decades absorbing heavy tannins from new oak, Hennessy Black is aged in older, seasoned French oak casks. This deliberate choice minimizes wood influence, preserving a pale gold hue and a fresh, aromatic profile defined by jasmine, orange blossom, and fresh honey. It stands as a testament to Hennessy’s ability to innovate while honoring its 250-year-old legacy of double-distillation in copper Charentais alembic stills.

🍾 wine.about_producer

Founded in 1765 by Irish officer Richard Hennessy in the historic town of Cognac, France, Hennessy has grown to become the world's most celebrated Cognac house. Headquartered on the banks of the Charente River along Rue de la Richonne, the house is renowned for its centuries-old blending heritage, famously guided by eight generations of master blenders from the Fillioux family. Utilizing traditional double-distillation in copper Charentais alembic stills, Hennessy ages its precious eaux-de-vie in French oak casks sourced from the Limousin forest to develop unparalleled complexity and depth. The estate's legendary portfolio is defined by iconic expressions such as the VSOP Privilège, the pioneering XO Cognac—a category first created by Maurice Hennessy in 1870—and the exquisite, ultra-premium Hennessy Paradis.
