The name 'Bras Armé'—meaning 'armed arm'—refers to the iconic mailed fist clutching a battleaxe depicted on the Hennessy family coat of arms, a symbol of the founder Richard Hennessy's military service. Introduced in the mid-19th century when Maurice Hennessy created the star-based classification system, Bras Armé became the definitive 'Three Star' Cognac, a precursor to the modern VS (Very Special). Crafted primarily from Ugni Blanc grapes harvested across the Cognac region's diverse crus, this historic blend is double-distilled in traditional copper Charentais stills and matured in Limousin oak casks.
