The Stolzenberg, or 'proud mountain,' is a steep, south-southeast-facing amphitheater vineyard in the village of Hatzenport, where vines cling to sheer terraces of weathered, iron-rich slate. This unique geological composition imparts a distinct, smoky minerality and a structured, saline depth to the wine. Heymann-Löwenstein practices a philosophy of minimal intervention, allowing the grapes to ferment spontaneously with wild yeasts in traditional large oak casks followed by extended contact on the fine lees. The resulting wine is a powerful, bone-dry Riesling that masterfully balances rich stone fruit flavors with a vibrant, electric acidity and a profound, soil-driven complexity that reflects centuries of Mosel winemaking heritage.
