✨ Technical Specifications

The Winninger Röttgen Riesling is a masterclass in the extreme viticulture of the Terrassenmosel. Clinging to near-vertical, south-facing terraces of decomposed blue Devonian slate, the Röttgen vineyard forms a natural amphitheater that traps the sun's warmth, balanced by the cooling drafts of the Mosel River. This dramatic topography has been cultivated since Roman times, demanding grueling hand-labor. Heymann-Löwenstein coaxes a profound expression from this site through spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts in traditional large oak fuder casks, followed by extensive lees aging. The resulting wine is renowned for its intense, smoky minerality, vibrant acidity, and rich, exotic yellow fruit notes, capturing the wild spirit of one of Germany's most challenging and prestigious vineyard sites.

🍾 About the Producer

Founded in 1980 by Reinhard Löwenstein and Cornelia Heymann-Löwenstein, Weingut Heymann-Löwenstein is situated in Winningen within the dramatic, vertiginous Terrassenmosel region of Germany. Renowned as a pioneering visionary of terroir-driven, dry Mosel Riesling, the estate champions low-intervention cellar practices, ambient yeast fermentations, and meticulous organic viticulture across extreme slate terraces. Cultivating celebrated Grand Cru vineyards such as Winninger Röttgen and the intricately geologized Winninger Uhlen, the winery creates wines deeply reflective of their distinct slate soils. Their celebrated portfolio ranges from profound, mineral-rich Grosses Gewächs dry Rieslings to intensely layered, botrytized dessert wines of remarkable longevity.
