Perched on the dizzyingly steep, terraced cliffs of the Terrassenmosel, the legendary Uhlen vineyard is a dramatic amphitheater of stone. Within this grand cru site lies the Blaufüsser Lay parcel, named after its unique, hard blue Devonian slate soil. Local folklore attributes the name Uhlen to the wild owls that have nested in the warm, craggy stone walls of these terraces for centuries. Under the visionary guidance of the Heymann-Löwenstein estate, this terroir yields a dry Riesling of immense power and crystalline purity. The grapes undergo spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts and spend extended time on their lees in traditional large oak casks.
