Named after its unique, iron-rich red slate ('rot' meaning red, and 'lay' being an ancient Celtic term for slate), this site yields a Riesling of extraordinary power and mineral intensity. The estate employs traditional, low-intervention methods, allowing the juice to ferment spontaneously with wild yeasts in large, neutral oak casks, followed by extended aging on the lees.
