The Winninger Uhlen Riesling is born from one of the most dramatic and steep vineyard sites in the Terrassenmosel, where ancient slate cliffs plunge vertically toward the river. The name 'Uhlen' refers to the owls that have long nested in the warm, rocky crevices of these terraced slopes. This unique amphitheater acts as a solar heat trap, allowing the Riesling grapes to achieve optimal ripeness while absorbing the intense mineral character of the complex slate soils, which range from iron-rich red slate to calcareous blue slate. Winemaker Reinhard Löwenstein famously champions the concept of 'liquid slate,' utilizing spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts and extended aging on the lees in traditional large oak Fuder casks. The resulting wine is a powerful, deeply textured, and highly complex dry Riesling, characterized by wild herbal notes, smoky minerality, and a vibrant, saline finish that beautifully captures the untamed spirit of the Mosel.

Weingut Heymann-Löwenstein blev grundlagt i 1980 af Reinhard Löwenstein og Cornelia Heymann-Löwenstein og ligger i Winningen i Tysklands dramatiske, stejle Terrassenmosel.
