The Uhlen vineyard is a spectacular, amphitheater-like cliff in the Lower Mosel, divided into distinct geological sub-parcels. Among these, 'Roth Lay' is legendary for its intensely red, iron-rich slate soil, which imparts a unique, smoky minerality and deep structure to the wine. The 'Reserve' designation indicates an extraordinary winemaking process: while the standard GG is bottled after a year, the Reserve undergoes extended aging on its fine lees in traditional large oak Fuder casks, often for two to three years or more. This prolonged contact with the yeast softens the Mosel's searing acidity, adding a rich, creamy texture, profound depth, and complex savory notes of petrol, dried stone fruits, and crushed flint.
