Highland Park, established in 1798 on the windswept Orkney Islands, is steeped in Viking history and smuggling lore. Founded by Magnus Eunson, a direct descendant of Viking settlers who famously hid illicit spirits under his church pulpit, the distillery remains one of the northernmost in the world. This exceptional 30-year-old single malt reflects Orkney's unique maritime terroir. Unlike mainland distilleries, Highland Park uses peat hand-cut from Hobbister Moor, which is packed with decomposing heather rather than wood, imparting a distinctively sweet, aromatic floral smoke. Maturing slowly over three decades in hand-selected, sherry-seasoned European and American oak casks, this expression develops a profound complexity, marrying rich dried fruits, warm spices, and soft peat smoke with a coastal salinity born of the wild North Sea winds.
