Hailing from the wind-swept Orkney Islands of Scotland, Highland Park's 'Dark Origins' is a rich, smoky single malt Scotch whisky that pays homage to the distillery's legendary founder, Magnus Eunson. In the late 18th century, Eunson was a beadle by day and a daring illicit distiller and smuggler by night, famously hiding his contraband under the church pulpit. Inspired by these shadowy beginnings, Dark Origins is crafted using a remarkably high proportion of first-fill European oak Sherry casks—double the amount used in the classic 12-year-old expression. This intense maturation process imparts a naturally dark, amber hue and a deeply complex flavor profile. The whisky marries Highland Park's signature aromatic, heather-rich peat smoke with luscious notes of dried spices, dark chocolate, and ripe bananas, reflecting the wild, maritime terroir of the northernmost reaches of Scotland.

Founded in 1798 in Kirkwall on the remote archipelago of Orkney, Highland Park stands as one of Scotland's most historic and northernmost single malt distilleries. Owned by the Edrington Group, the distillery fiercely guards traditional whisky-making practices, still conducting its own hand-turned floor maltings and cutting dense, heather-rich peat from nearby Hobbister Moor. Maturation takes place predominantly in premium sherry-seasoned oak casks within Orkney's cool, windswept maritime climate. This unique convergence of terroir and technique yields Highland Park's internationally revered signature style, distinguished by gentle aromatic peat smoke, luscious heather-honey sweetness, and rich, complex spice.
