Highland Park, nestled on the windswept Orkney Islands of Scotland, is one of the world's northernmost distilleries, steeped in Viking heritage and lore. Founded in 1798 by the legendary smuggler and priest Magnus Eunson, the distillery still employs traditional floor maltings and harvests its unique, woodless peat from the nearby Hobbister Moor. This heather-rich peat imparts a distinctively sweet, aromatic, and gentle smoky character rather than the medicinal peat found in Islay. The iconic 18-Year-Old 'Old Bottling'—highly coveted by collectors for its classic presentation prior to modern redesigns—is matured predominantly in European and American sherry-seasoned oak casks. This slow, cool maritime maturation harmonizes Orkney's heather honey sweetness, rich dried fruits, soft peat smoke, and warming winter spices into a legendary, multi-award-winning single malt.
