Steeped in the lore of the windswept Orkney Islands, Highland Park is one of the world's most northerly distilleries, founded in 1798 by the legendary smuggler and vestryman Magnus Eunson. The unique character of Orkney single malts is deeply tied to the islands' treeless, gale-swept landscape, where the peat is composed almost entirely of ancient, decomposed heather. This imparts a signature sweet, floral, and aromatic smokiness rather than the medicinal iodine found in southern Islay malts. This exclusive 11-year-old single cask expression, bottled in 2022 for the French market from Refill Hogshead No 2777, showcases the distillery's pure spirit character. The refill cask gently matures the spirit, allowing Highland Park's classic notes of heather-honey, soft peat smoke, coastal sea spray, and bright citrus to take center stage without being overshadowed by heavy oak wood.
