✨ Technical Specifications
The Premier Cru red wines of the Hospices de Beaune represent a historic tapestry of Burgundy's finest terroirs, gifted to the charity over five centuries. Sourced from prestigious parcels across the Côte de Beaune—including celebrated appellations like Beaune, Pommard, and Volnay—these Pinot Noir cuvées are crafted under the meticulous stewardship of the estate's régisseur. Each cuvée bears the name of a historical benefactor, such as Nicolas Rolin or Charlotte Dumay. The winemaking combines traditional open-vat fermentation with aging in custom-made oak barrels, which are then sold at the famous November auction to be finished by selected négociants. These wines are celebrated for their deep complexity, balancing vibrant red fruit, earthy forest floor notes, and elegant, structured tannins that reflect the unique limestone-clay soils of their respective climats.
🍾 About the Producer
Founded in 1443 by Nicolas Rolin, Chancellor to the Duke of Burgundy, and his wife Guigone de Salins, the Hospices de Beaune was established as a charitable hospital supported by donations of prime vineyard parcels. Today, the historic estate encompasses over 60 hectares of exceptionally situated Premier and Grand Cru vineyards across Burgundy's Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits. Revered worldwide for its historic charity wine auction held every November since 1859, the domaine employs meticulous, organic viticultural techniques to highlight the uncompromised terroir of each plot. Its celebrated portfolio consists of distinguished Pinot Noir and Chardonnay cuvées, each named in honor of prominent historical benefactors such as Cuvée Nicolas Rolin and Cuvée Charlotte Dumay.
