Named in honor of General Paul-Jules Muteau, a distinguished cavalry officer who bequeathed a magnificent estate to the Hospices de Beaune in 1926, this Cuvée is crafted from select Premier Cru parcels in the Beaune appellation. The blend traditionally includes fruit from prestigious climats such as Bressandes, Bas des Teurons, and Clos des Avaux. This wine represents the classic, elegant style of Beaune Premier Cru, showcasing a harmonious balance of bright red berry fruits, subtle forest floor, and refined, silky tannins. Traditionally auctioned as en primeur barrels on the third Sunday of November, the wine is subsequently nurtured by selected négociants, developing great complexity, structure, and a velvety texture through careful oak aging.

Founded in 1443 by Nicolas Rolin, Chancellor to the Duke of Burgundy, and his wife Guigone de Salins, the Hospices de Beaune was established as a charitable hospital supported by donations of prime vineyard parcels. Today, the historic estate encompasses over 60 hectares of exceptionally situated Premier and Grand Cru vineyards across Burgundy's Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits. Revered worldwide for its historic charity wine auction held every November since 1859, the domaine employs meticulous, organic viticultural techniques to highlight the uncompromised terroir of each plot. Its celebrated portfolio consists of distinguished Pinot Noir and Chardonnay cuvées, each named in honor of prominent historical benefactors such as Cuvée Nicolas Rolin and Cuvée Charlotte Dumay.
