β¨ Technical Specifications
Famille Hugel's Estate Riesling is a dry white wine sourced exclusively from the family's own historic estate vineyards in Riquewihr, primarily the steep, clay-limestone and marl slopes of the Schoenenbourg Grand Cru. This terroir has been celebrated for its exceptional winegrowing potential since the high Middle Ages. The Hugel family, who have been crafting wine in Riquewihr since 1639, vinify this Riesling using gravity-flow methods and ferment it in historic, century-old oak casks (foudres) in their ancient subterranean cellars. The result is a wine of remarkable tension, crystalline acidity, and deep mineral complexity that beautifully reflects the unique geology of its historic birthplace.
πΎ About the Producer
Established in 1639 in the picturesque medieval village of Riquewihr, Famille Hugel is one of the most venerable and celebrated wine producers in Alsace, France. Managed continuously by more than a dozen generations of the Hugel family, the estate combines historic family vineyards with carefully sourced fruit to champion the diverse terroirs of the region. Hugel was instrumental in establishing the official regulations for Alsace's revered late-harvest categories, Vendanges Tardives and SΓ©lection de Grains Nobles. Renowned globally for their purity, elegance, and ageability, the winery crafts benchmark dry and sweet expressions of noble Alsace varieties, particularly Riesling, Gewurztraminer, and Pinot Gris, vinified traditionally in century-old oak foudres.
