Famille Hugel, established in the picturesque medieval village of Riquewihr in 1639, is one of Alsace's most venerable winemaking dynasties. Their Muscat Classic is a dry, vibrantly aromatic white wine that beautifully showcases the region's unique approach to this ancient grape family. Unlike the sweet, fortified Muscats of southern France, Hugel's expression is vinified completely dry. It is typically crafted from a traditional blend of Muscat Ottonel and Muscat ร Petits Grains, grown on clay and limestone soils. The grapes are harvested by hand and gently pressed, with the juice fermented under temperature control in neutral vessels to preserve the explosive, primary fruit aromatics. In Alsace folklore, the release of the new Muscat vintage is celebrated as the herald of spring, capturing the essence of fresh, crunchy grapes straight from the vine.
๐พ About the Producer
Established in 1639 in the picturesque medieval village of Riquewihr, Famille Hugel is one of the most venerable and celebrated wine producers in Alsace, France. Managed continuously by more than a dozen generations of the Hugel family, the estate combines historic family vineyards with carefully sourced fruit to champion the diverse terroirs of the region. Renowned globally for their purity, elegance, and ageability, the winery crafts benchmark dry and sweet expressions of noble Alsace varieties, particularly Riesling, Gewurztraminer, and Pinot Gris, vinified traditionally in century-old oak foudres.
