โจ Technical Specifications
Hugel's Grand Cru Riesling expression, primarily sourced from the historic Schoenenbourg hill in Riquewihr, represents the pinnacle of Alsatian viticulture. This legendary slope, celebrated since the 16th century for producing wines of kings and emperors, features a complex terroir of marly clay, gypsum, and limestone. While Famille Hugel historically eschewed the official 'Grand Cru' label designation in favor of their own traditional terms like 'Grossi Laรผe' (meaning 'greatest growth' in Alsatian dialect), the wine is undeniably Grand Cru in pedigree. Vinified in historic, century-old oak foudres, this dry Riesling showcases a profound mineral tension, vibrant acidity, and a deep, multi-layered structure that develops exquisite petrol and honeyed complexity with age.
๐พ About the Producer
Established in 1639 in the picturesque medieval village of Riquewihr, Famille Hugel is one of the most venerable and celebrated wine producers in Alsace, France. Managed continuously by more than a dozen generations of the Hugel family, the estate combines historic family vineyards with carefully sourced fruit to champion the diverse terroirs of the region. Hugel was instrumental in establishing the official regulations for Alsace's revered late-harvest categories, Vendanges Tardives and Sรฉlection de Grains Nobles. Renowned globally for their purity, elegance, and ageability, the winery crafts benchmark dry and sweet expressions of noble Alsace varieties, particularly Riesling, Gewurztraminer, and Pinot Gris, vinified traditionally in century-old oak foudres.
