Rooted in classic Châteauneuf-du-Pape soils characterized by quartzite galets roulés layered over red clay and limestone subsoils, this cuvée draws on traditional Southern Rhône varieties dominated by Grenache alongside Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Cinsault. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled concrete and stainless steel vats to preserve fresh fruit aromatic tension, accompanied by gentle daily pump-overs to extract supple, fine-grained tannins. Maturation typically proceeds in seasoned large French oak foudres and neutral demi-muids, imparting soft oxidation and tertiary spice while retaining pure Mediterranean garrigue and dried fruit signatures.

Established in 1936 by Gabriel and Juliette Meffre in the heart of the Southern Rhône, Maison Gabriel Meffre (often historically designated as J&G Meffre across traditional labels) grew from a family endeavor into one of the region's prominent négociant-éleveurs and estate producers. Headquartered in Gigondas beneath the limestone ridge of the Dentelles de Montmirail, the house works across premier Southern Rhône appellations, notably Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas, and Vacqueyras. Terroirs range from quartzitic galets roulés and clay-sand terraces in Châteauneuf-du-Pape to stony limestone scree on mountain slopes, tempered by generous Mediterranean sun and the drying Mistral wind. Long overseen enologically by Véronique Torcolacci, vinification centers on classic regional varietals led by Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre. The winemaking balances fruit purity with textural richness, expressed through cuvées like the prestige Laurus parcel selections, Saint Théodoric, and widely distributed heritage bottlings including Au Pavillon Saint-Pierre and La Chasse.
