Jacques Selosse's Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut represents a paradigm shift in Champagne winemaking, pioneered by the legendary Anselme Selosse. Sourced from the chalky Grand Cru slopes of the Côte des Blancs—primarily Avize, Cramant, and Oger—this cuvée is a masterclass in terroir-driven, oxidative vinification. Unlike conventional Champagnes, Selosse utilizes indigenous yeasts, ferments and ages the base wines in oak casks (a nod to Burgundian traditions), and maintains an exceptionally low dosage. This approach coaxes an unmatched depth, vinous texture, and intense minerality from the Chardonnay grapes. The wine is celebrated for its complex layers of bruised apple, toasted brioche, and wet stone, embodying Anselme's philosophy that Champagne is first and foremost a fine wine defined by its soil rather than its bubbles.

🍾 wine.about_producer

Founded in 1949 in the Grand Cru village of Avize, Champagne Jacques Selosse rose to legendary status under the visionary leadership of Anselme Selosse, who took over the estate in 1974. Applying Burgundian winemaking philosophies to the Côte des Blancs, Anselme pioneered low yields, organic viticulture, and fermentation in oak casks, fundamentally transforming modern Champagne production. The estate is celebrated for its highly individualistic, terroir-driven cuvées, including the solera-aged Substance and the acclaimed Lieux-dits series, which showcase an unparalleled depth, oxidative complexity, and vinous character.
