Hailing from a steep, south-facing hillside in the legendary Grand Cru village of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, 'Les Carelles' is a masterclass in terroir-driven Champagne. The name of this lieu-dit refers to the square blocks of chalk historically quarried from this very hillside to build local homes. Anselme Selosse captures the intense minerality of this chalky soil by utilizing a solera-style perpetual reserve system initiated in 2003. This method blends the freshness of the most recent harvest with the depth and complexity of older vintages, all fermented and aged in oak casks. The result is an extraordinarily complex, oxidative, and deeply mineral Blanc de Blancs that challenges the traditional boundaries of Champagne.

🍾 wine.about_producer

Founded in 1949 in the Grand Cru village of Avize, Champagne Jacques Selosse rose to legendary status under the visionary leadership of Anselme Selosse, who took over the estate in 1974. Applying Burgundian winemaking philosophies to the Côte des Blancs, Anselme pioneered low yields, organic viticulture, and fermentation in oak casks, fundamentally transforming modern Champagne production. The estate is celebrated for its highly individualistic, terroir-driven cuvées, including the solera-aged Substance and the acclaimed Lieux-dits series, which showcase an unparalleled depth, oxidative complexity, and vinous character.
