Part of Anselme Selosse's legendary single-vineyard (lieu-dit) collection, Le Bout du Clos originates from a coveted plot in the Grand Cru village of Ambonnay. This terroir is celebrated for its chalky soils topped with clay, which impart a profound power and structural elegance to the wine. Primarily composed of Pinot Noir with a small touch of Chardonnay, this cuvée is crafted using Selosse's signature solera-like perpetual reserve system, where younger wines replenish older barrels. Fermented in oak casks with wild yeasts and minimal sulfur, it undergoes extended lees aging. The result is a breathtakingly complex Champagne, boasting an oxidative complexity, deep vinous texture, and a vibrant mineral core that redefines the boundaries of sparkling wine.
🍾 wine.about_producer
Founded in 1949 in the Grand Cru village of Avize, Champagne Jacques Selosse rose to legendary status under the visionary leadership of Anselme Selosse, who took over the estate in 1974. Applying Burgundian winemaking philosophies to the Côte des Blancs, Anselme pioneered low yields, organic viticulture, and fermentation in oak casks, fundamentally transforming modern Champagne production. The estate is celebrated for its highly individualistic, terroir-driven cuvées, including the solera-aged Substance and the acclaimed Lieux-dits series, which showcase an unparalleled depth, oxidative complexity, and vinous character.
