The Lieux-Dits 'Les Chantereines' is an extraordinary, ultra-rare Blanc de Blancs sourced from a tiny, historic parcel in the Grand Cru village of Avize. The name 'Chantereines' translates to 'singing frogs,' a poetic nod to the historic marshy edges of the village where frogs would sing in the spring. Situated on a steep, east-facing slope with incredibly thin topsoil sitting directly on pure Campanian chalk, this vineyard yields Chardonnay of breathtaking mineral intensity. Anselme Selosse crafts this cuvée using a perpetual reserve (solera) system started in 2003, aging the wine in oak casks to develop his signature oxidative complexity. The result is a profound, multi-dimensional Champagne that captures the crystalline, saline, and deeply resonant soul of Avize terroir.
🍾 wine.about_producer
Founded in 1949 in the Grand Cru village of Avize, Champagne Jacques Selosse rose to legendary status under the visionary leadership of Anselme Selosse, who took over the estate in 1974. Applying Burgundian winemaking philosophies to the Côte des Blancs, Anselme pioneered low yields, organic viticulture, and fermentation in oak casks, fundamentally transforming modern Champagne production. The estate is celebrated for its highly individualistic, terroir-driven cuvées, including the solera-aged Substance and the acclaimed Lieux-dits series, which showcase an unparalleled depth, oxidative complexity, and vinous character.
