Pommard is historically celebrated for producing some of the most robust and structured red wines in the Côte de Beaune, often described as masculine. However, the Premier Cru 'Grands Epenots' vineyard, situated on the lower slopes near the border of Beaune, offers a remarkably refined expression of this appellation. The iron-rich, clay-limestone soils of this ancient climat yield a Pinot Noir that beautifully marries Pommard's signature power with an unexpected, velvety grace. Established in Beaune in 1880 by Joseph Drouhin, Maison Joseph Drouhin stands as one of Burgundy's preeminent family-owned wine houses. Guided today by the fourth generation—Frédéric, Philippe, Laurent, and head winemaker Véronique Boss-Drouhin—the domaine encompasses approximately 90 to 100 hectares of organically and biodynamically farmed vineyards spanning Chablis, the Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune, Côte Chalonnaise, and the Willamette Valley in Oregon.
