This historic cuvée is deeply intertwined with the legacy of the Drouhin family and the Hospices de Beaune. Maurice Drouhin, son of the maison's founder, served as an administrator of the Hospices and was a key figure in the French Resistance during World War II. After narrowly escaping arrest by the Gestapo by hiding in the subterranean cellars of the Hospices, the family later bequeathed prime Premier Cru parcels to the charity in gratitude. This exceptional blend is sourced from coveted Beaune Premier Cru climates, including Les Grèves and Les Avaux. When acquired and nurtured through its élevage by Maison Joseph Drouhin, it represents a masterclass in classic Beaune Pinot Noir, balancing bright red berry fruit, silky tannins, and a subtle, earthy minerality born of clay-limestone soils.

Established in Beaune in 1880 by Joseph Drouhin, Maison Joseph Drouhin stands as one of Burgundy's preeminent family-owned wine houses. Guided today by the fourth generation—Frédéric, Philippe, Laurent, and head winemaker Véronique Boss-Drouhin—the domaine encompasses approximately 90 to 100 hectares of organically and biodynamically farmed vineyards spanning Chablis, the Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune, Côte Chalonnaise, and the Willamette Valley in Oregon. Drouhin's viticultural identity rests upon limestone-clay terroirs, indigenous yeast fermentations, delicate extraction, and judicious French oak aging.
