The Piesporter Goldtröpfchen, or 'droplet of gold,' is one of the Mosel's most legendary grand cru vineyards, a dramatic, south-facing amphitheater of weathered Devonian slate that has been prized since Roman times—as evidenced by the ancient Roman winepresses unearthed nearby. From this historic site, Julian Haart crafts his Kabinett Alte Reben from exceptionally old, deep-rooted vines. These ancient vines yield tiny, concentrated berries that retain a thrilling, electric acidity. Haart's non-interventionist approach—utilizing spontaneous fermentation in traditional oak Fuder—captures the vineyard's intense slate minerality, balancing a delicate, feather-light sweetness with a piercing, crystalline structure that defines the pinnacle of modern Mosel Riesling.
